CONVENTION 98 The Miami Vice Convention took place in Miami, Florida October 23 - 26, 1998. Guests stayed at the Alexander Hotel in South Beach, where the original cast stayed while filming the show during the 80's. The opening party to welcome conventioneers took place at Bash Nightclub. A surprise guest appearance was made by Philip Michael Thomas, who stayed the entire evening, to meet and entertain his fans, getting to know them and talk of the days when the show was in production. Though it was hard to top the opening evening, conventioneers freely participated in several other activities of their choice as well. Some of these included watching Favorite episodes, spectating a Jai-Ali game as in the episode "Killshot", hitting the clubs of Miami's South Beach, and participating in a game of billiards to try to capture the essence of the episode "The Great McCarthy". Many also went on an a tour organized by Miami native, and fellow conventioneer, Frank Gonzalez. He pointed out key locations where filming occured. This was then followed by an extra-curricular excursion to Fort Lauderdale for dinner. In all the first annual Miami Vice Convention was a great success.
